Dear Quentin
THE ROALD DAHL STORY COMPANY
A particularly special project to work on, Dear Quentin was created to celebrate Sir Quentin Blake’s 90th birthday.
The book brings together 90 Roald Dahl characters through artwork, archival material and details inspired by Quentin’s own illustration practice.

Create a special limited edition book to celebrate Sir Quentin Blake's 90th birthday.
Originally created as a personal gift for Quentin himself, additional copies were shared with selected partners, stakeholders, collaborators, and acclaimed actors, directors and creatives connected to The Roald Dahl Story Company.
-
I led the design and project management of the book, shaping the concept, narrative and editorial experience from initial idea through to production.
I developed a visual language that felt special and considered, celebrating the way Quentin brought Roald Dahl's characters to life.

Dear Quentin is a celebration of art, friendship and storytelling, cataloguing 90 Roald Dahl characters brought to life by Quentin Blake over four decades.
Designed to feel like both a personal sketchbook and an archival document, four paper stocks echo the qualities of a sketchbook, each chosen to reflect a different part of the illustration process.
Translucent pages layer text and image, revealing full colour watercolours beneath. Kraft paper dividers expose the pages beyond, reflecting the evolution of the stories, while recycled coffee cup paper references the cartridge paper used in Quentin's studio.
The book is bound in carmine cloth, a nod to Quentin's favourite colour, and set in a refined lighter weight of the Roald Dahl brand typeface.
-
Dear Quentin was warmly received by recipients, with feedback highlighting how deeply the book resonated on a personal level. Many described it as an emotional and meaningful celebration of Quentin Blake's creative legacy, and a special piece to treasure and return to.
Beyond its role as a personal gift, the book reflects the care and thoughtfulness The Roald Dahl Story Company brings to its creative work, celebrating the stories and characters at the heart of the brand.
